The Lyrics

The amazing Fw-190D-13 was the last in line of the successful Fw-190D fighter series, but was just entering production in May 1945, just before the surrender. As a result, only two prototypes were converted from A-8s, but held vast potential with the new Jumo 213E engine plus standard armament of either 1x 30mm MK-108 in the spinner plus 2x 20mm MG-151/20s in the wing roots or 3x 20mm MG-151/20s with provision of 2 more 20mm MG-151/20s in the wings for a total of 5x 20mm MG-151/20s!!! Also provision for ETC 501 belly rack to carry a 300 liter drop tank. 1062 airframes were ordered in 1945 but only 17 were built with only two in service in the end. One was flown by a LW pilot with 63 kills from JG 26. He was ordered to surrender the machine to the British. The D-14 and 15 were high-altitude versions that led to the Fw Ta 152 development, so the real end of the normal fighter series was the D-13. One is preserved in a museum- an awesome sight to behold below...
D-13 started too
from series D-9

Focke-Wulf D-series continued
Better designin’
For combat flyin’

Luftwaffe couldn’t stand it
Allies roamin’ around
D-13 would be deadly
Mk-108 plus two MG-151s to shoot ‘em down!

D-13 started too
from series D-9
Last line

They built two
They built two
They built two
Better than a P-51
New engine to carry
The Jumo 213E
Also carried added guns

Supremacy
D-13 started too
from series D-9

I am a bit confused by the FW series. I once modeled some A models and then that jump to D models. What happened to all the other models in-between? The ME aircraft all follow in a row!

Wasn't the FW-190 one of the three most numerically produced aircraft of all time, the others being the B-24 and Cessna 172? Are there any still flying?

The Me Bf 109 was the most with 35,000+, next was Il-2 with 33,000, then Yak-1 at 30,000, Spitfire and Fw-190 at around 20,000 each. For bombers the B-24 was around 18,000 vs 15,000 Ju-88!!!

Note that I am going off newer info as Wiki's record numbers are in error and also that many a/c on that list are disputed for numbers plus or minus. The Cessna 172 has a claim of between 43,000-50,000 produced (that's 7000 in question). The Il-2 was formerly the most produced in WW2 with claims of 33-36,000 but more like between 33-35,000 with the Me Bf 109 records adjusted for accuracy overtaking the Il-2 with 35,000+. Germany was to produce the Fiat G.50 Centauro under license but the Armistice in '43 stopped that. Had it gone through it would have diminished the Bf 109 production due to commonality of engine and armament usage and the Germans would have also moved on to the G.56 as well! As it was Germany produced 35,000+ Bf 109s, 20,000+ Fw-190s, and around 2000 jet and rocket aircraft with another several thousand under construction in May 1945 (Me-262 and He-162).

DC, the Fw-190 series went the same except that the B and C experimentals were problematic and were dropped. The D and F models were operational and then a strike G-model was built by composite building of different airframes, engines, and wings. There were also trainer S-versions and at least one experimental TL, or jet Fw-190 using a Fw T-1 centrifugal jet engine. Like Messerschmitt, the number of sub-variants is astounding A-1 thru A-10, D-9 thru D-15, etc...
