The Lyrics

The Japanese had one of the poorest SMGs in WW2- the Type 100 which never worked well. In 1944 Nambu produced initially a weird bullpup design Type 1 in 8mm. This was followed by the improved Type II and then Type IIB. Under 100 were produced for home defense by the time the war ended and the US did not discover them right away. The formerly occupied Chinese got their hands on one and copied it postwar in 11.43 mm form. Another Japanes design that was not pursued was the Tokyo Arsenal Experimental SMG which was tested back in 1927 and then again in 1930 by the IJA. A late attempt to refine that also failed, so just the Nambu SMGs were left. The links below follow in chronological order of the TA Experimental, then the Nambu Type 1, and then the Type II and finally the Type IIB... a very odd design and virtually unknown...

I had one of the weird Type 94 pistols. Had to make my own cartridges, at $1+ each. Shot OK, better than the fancier French 1935A. A submachinegun would have been a much better weapon for a Japanese soldier in the jungle than a Type 38 rifle that stood taller than he was. Good sub guns are also a lot easier to build in quantity than high grade bolt rifles.

Some folk may enjoy this, but I find it as interesting as reading my toaster oven warranty.

BB... and yet you took the time to both read it and comment on it!!! If you knew anything about firearms history, this is a rare weapon that was not even discovered by the US until occupation. I'm sorry that you cannot appreciate this information, but feel free to comment ;-D
