The Lyrics

The Katana 1100 that Suzuki unleashed on an unsuspecting motorcycle world in 1982 was a machine like nothing seen before from Japan. It was bold, stylish, imaginative, breathtaking; very different to succession of fast, but visually dull, models that had preceded it. And underneath all the fancy bodywork, the Katana was an outstanding superbike too. This was my favorite bike of all time and I was blown-away with it when it was unveiled to the public. This was before the Honda Hurricane, Kawasaki Ninja, and the 4 Turbos of 1986/87. It got everyone's attention and was the first bike with a 150 mph top speed. This came out a year before the V65 Magna that my brother loved which broke the quarter mile record- but not by much when compared to the Katana- 10.92 secs at 124.82 mph vs the earlier Katana's 11.05 secs at 123.64 mph. A scant difference of only .13 secs and 1.18 mph!!! I loved that bike and still do. My skeptical brother who criticized it in a company of guys back in 1982 at age 14 almost got his ass kicked for his critical remarks!!!
Katana was new in ‘82
very bold design

GS-1100E was fast, but dull too
Katana was excitin’
Upon its arrivin’

Motorcyclists were awed by it
Nothin’ like it around
Air-cooled DOHC 16-valve four
First 150 mph bike, no one could put it down

Katana was new in ‘82
very bold design
For time

How it moved
How it moved
How it moved
11.05 second quarter mile
123.64 mph
5-speed, chain final drive
Wrapped in breathtaking style

Awed everybody
Katana was new in ‘82
very bold design
(Impressive as can be)

It seems that the motorcycle in your last parody went faster... But nice parody Rob! :-) 555!

Yes, the V65 came out a year later and was faster with a record 10 sec 1/4 mile. But the Katana had the styling and still looks amazing after 29 years! I never had one. My brother worked for Capital Yamaha, so I had this family incentinve to buy from Yamaha. Loved my SECA 750 and 550 Vision (which was an early V-engined, liquid-cooled, shaft-driven bike with exotic full fairing with inlet ducts and folding morrors). In 1982, there simply was nothing like the Katana.
