"The Macchi Tuono"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The Macchi C.206 Tuono (Thunder) was the end of the line for Italian fighters in WW2. It followed the last best of Macchi- the C.202 Folgore (Lightning), C.205 Veltro (Greyhound), and C.205N Orione (Orion). One prototype was under construction that would have featured a larger wing than the C.205N and to be powered by a German DB 603 engine. Armament of 4x 12.7mm Breda MGs and 1x 20mm cannon firing through the nose (most likely German MG-151/20). Under construction, the Tuono was caught in a bombing raid and wrecked (see link below). Amazingly, the Italians produced their best fighters at the end with the Macchi series and also the Fiat G.55 Centauro, G.56, Regianne Re.2005 and projects Re.2006 and 2007 jet (also under construction awaiting German Jumo 004 jet engine). Germans were involded with the latter Type 5 fighters, providing DB 603 and 605 engines plus 20mm MG-151/20 armament. The Luftwaffe flew several types and even wanted to produce the G.55/G.56 under license, but the Armistice prevented that...
The Macchi Tuono
end of the line

Last Italian fighter of WW2
Macchi was tryin’
Buildin' for flyin’

Luftwaffe interested in it
DB 603 spinnin’ ‘round
4x MGs and a cannon deadly
Best Italian high-alt. fighter found

The Macchi Tuono
end of the line
Armistice signed

Not one flew
Not one flew
Not one flew
Was lost in air raid
Type 5 fighter
Built for supremacy
Couldn’t be saved

From Italy
The Macchi Tuono

Boy! They sure demolished that plane! Too bad that they couldn't build a substitute. But you built a great parody here! 555! :-)

The Allies were lucky or blessed that so many of the Axis designs were stifled by politics or material shortages. Sometimes quantity is a quality of its own.

Maybe they were luckier that Adolf Hitler delayed so many projects or interfered in them to the point that they were useless or ineffective! Rob- never heard of the Tuono, so thanks!!! 555

Probably never heard of the Italian jets of WW2 either: Caproni-Campini C.C.2/N.1, projects C.C.7 Toscana, Caproni Ca.183bis, and Regianne Re.2007. Luftwaffe wanted to produce the Fiat G.55 Centauro under license but the Armistice prevented that as well. Imagine, German Centuaros and G.56s in the air with Bf 109s, Fw-190s, and Me-262s!!!
