The Lyrics

True story: On Father's Day, Maggie was helping her owner John Reader and mounted riders herd about 300 head of cattle along Allegheny-Ridge Road in Sierra County en route to summer pasture. Pilot cars were in front and back of the herd. As the cattle moved along the road, cars stopped to let the herd pass. But a white Jeep Cherokee pushed through instead of waiting and hit a calf and cow, then ran-over 8 year old cattle dog Maggie on the shoulder. She was run completely over but managed to survive long enough to be taken to a Vet where miraculously she has survived a broken right hind leg, deep cut to left hind leg, and had her liver and stomach pushed up into her chest cavity!!! A few days later, the man was caught- 19 yr old Philip Lombardobarton of Comptonville, arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, animal cruelty, and vandalism. Although angered, owner John Reader appreciates the 150 people that covered the vet bill and 50 others that donated money to a pet fund. Maggie is recovering wonderfully and does the work of 5 ranchers- she was never taught either, the herding just came naturally. A real canine hero that went to protect the herd when hit!!!
Maggie, cattle dog hero
working canine

Angry driver ran over you
You wasn’t movin’
Was close to dyin’

Your owner couldn’t stand it
Best cattle dog around
Driver rampage could’ve been deadly
But he wasn’t gonna let anyone put you down

Maggie, cattle dog hero
working canine
Maggie’s fine

We love you
We love you
We love you
You survived somehow
Driver didn’t care
Was arrested for cruelty
He’s in jail right now

Complex surgery
Maggie, cattle dog hero
working canine
(miracle recovery)

At first I thought it said "Maggie the Cat" and it was an Elizabeth Taylor tribute.

Hmmmm... Maybe dogs have 9 lives too, just like cat's do? ;-) but your parody has three 5's to live by! :-)

CowboyDave's k-9 ~ Ole Smoky ~ met his end this way . . . This is a common cause of rancher-canine death; most cattle dogs are not this lucky, Sir !
