The Lyrics

This postwar VTOL rotary disc with auxiliary directional thrusters is truly an enigma of Soviet-German disc development again located in the GDR where another German disc designer Josef Andreas Epp had persuaded his Soviet captors to allow him to build his World War II Omega Discus design that was rejected by the Nazis as impractical (although he did manage to construct 1/10th scale models for testing). The Soviets allowed the disc craft to be built, but modified into a more conventional design which became known as the Pirna flugscheibe due to its location in the GDR. However, a German World War II fighter pilot named Weisske also had a radical idea for a disc craft along the lines of a disc-fan type, but more sophisticated than the Flugelrad disc-autogyro models being built in Prague by BMW as well as Schriever's failed Flugkreisel. Weisske's idea was on a larger scale model with a domed cockpit for excellent visibility and what is assumed to be an internal engine driving a large rotor ring with multiple blades that rotated around the disc perimeter on bearings. The disc blades would be variable to allow maneuverable flight like a helicopter with a pair of auxiliary directional thrusters perhaps for increased speed and powered climb (?). No landing gear is apparent, so the bottom of the craft would probably be solid and flat for ease of landing on any surface. No armament is visible either. It would seem that together with Srkzhinski, the Weisske disc would act as a recon machine- the very same role that the Epp Pirna disc was to perform for spy flight over West Germany. However, due to the nature of Soviet distrust of the more radical German aircraft designs and Stalin's Cold War obsession with massed- produced conventional jet and prop aircraft, the VTP-1 was ultimately not built. It was rejected as well as Epp's prototype Pirna flugscheibe and the Junkers EF-150 derived Baade 152 GDR airliner that would have used Pirna 014 indigenous jet engines. The Soviets wanted no German competition with military nor civilian aircraft and the GDR as a satellite Communist nation would be supplied with Soviet aircraft.
Weisske disc never flew
project from 1959

German discs in USSR seldom flew
VTP-1 was for spyin’
Idea was inspirin’

Weisske was designer that planned it
Rotor blades spinnin’ around
Central disc fuselage body
VTOL capability to take-ff, set down

Weisske disc never flew
project from 1959
Radical design

Rotary disc new
Rotary disc new
Rotary disc new
Yet wasn’t built anyway
Soviets didn’t care
About recon capability
More concerned about flight stability

Disc was rotary
Weisske disc never flew
project from 1959
(Rejected for Soviet inventory)

Glad you could identify the flying object, or else no one else might be able to. ;-D 5's! Great Job! :-)

Another example of political interference with scientific research. Remember, if a politician really knew anything about aviation, he would be a designer or pilot or something. Most politicians are among the least knowledgeable and capable people around, but they have the highest opinions of themselves.
