The Lyrics

Two stories in one!!! First, prior to WW2 the US had agreed to license Coca-Cola to Germany for manufacture. But with the war starting in 1939, the contract was made void, the US NOT shipping the necessary plant machinery and ingredients. The Germans, however, simply invented Fanta instead. Fanta is short for Fantasie in German (Fantasy) which came from an employee at the plant. But the other main story here is that Rommel and the Afrika Korps found abandoned Coca-Cola in crates in N Africa deserted by US forces. Thirsty, Rommel devised a plan to chill the Coke by fitting the bottles in sweaty socks lightly sprayed with Wasser and putting them in cargo nets attached to Me Bf 109 fighters of the Luftwaffe. The planes made short flights up to high altitude which froze the bottles so that when they returned, the German troops had Ice-cold (Eiskalt) Coca-Cola to drink!!!
Coke during World War II
Rommel’s find

Coca-Cola found by German troops
In desert lyin’ (‘round)
Soldiers were fryin’ (on the ground)

The heat, they couldn’t stand it
Hot Coke bottles found
Soldaten were thirstin’ badly
Rommel devised a plan to cool it down

Coke during World War II
Rommel’s find
Used the 109 (Messerschmitt)

Flown at altitude
Flown at altitude
Flown at altitude
Strapped to each 109 somehow
Exposed to cold air
The bottles became chilled
German troops gulped it down
(Eiskalt Coca-Cola)!!!

German enemy
Coke during World War II
Rommel’s find
(Germany invented Fanta instead- short for Fantasie)!!!

Please note that the US had THREE plant ships operating in WW2 to supply Coke to US troops throughout the war!!! Germany, OTOH, invented Fanta and promoted it Eiskalt with a Polar Bear Steiff suit that preceded the Icee and Coke Polar Bears postwar!!!
