The Lyrics

Another strange mystery of WW2 is a young 20 year old female LW trainer named Lindi Schumann that trained with both the NSFK early on and later with the LW with various light a/c trainers. According to a German site, Lindi also was trained briefly in the Me Bf 109 (supposedly 7.5 hrs of flight training) due to her LW pilot lover who was reprimanded for training her personally in early 1945. This was NOT in any way connected to Hanna Reitsch's permission to form an all-female fighting unit in March 1945 from Hitler which he rescinded two weeks later as well as the suicide Reichenberg R.IV craft proposal. So Lindi's name is not on that list if there ever was one made by Hanna. It is claimed that when the USAAF attacked her lover's base in the spring of 1945 Lindi also ignored warnings under fire and took off in a Me Bf 109G unathorized and actually engaged a strafing P-51D Mustang at low altitude, but w/o making a kill. Her strategy was simple- get on the enemy six and blaze away. The Mustang took a few rounds to the tail but evaded- Lindi did not pursue and was ordered back to base where she was immediately interrogated by both the LW and the local Gestapo. She was subsequently transferred by rail to a Flak unit as an Auxiliary and the entire combat flight was never recorded while the two lovers were split apart permanently with no locations given to either of them. The story comes from surviving LW eyewitnesses of her flight and from her interrogation of her action. All references to her unauthorized training were destroyed prior to surrender. I wonder now if the Mustang pilot saw she was a female b/c she had no time for flight gear. Lindi was 20 and blonde with long hair. I don't think anyone would believe such a pilot report anyway. US intel interrogators had a hard enough time believing all the types of a/c Hanna flew and her role with the Reichenberg suicide craft. I have no other information...
Lindi Schumann flew
was a crime

You better stop the dream you pursue
No more flyin’
No more fightin’

Hitler won’t stand for it
You flyin’ around
With your Luftwaffe lover
In combat, almost got yourself shot down

Lindi Schumann flew
was a crime
several times

But she flew
But she flew
But she flew
But she flew anyhow
And she didn’t care
Caught a Stang unaware
Hit the tail was aimin’ for the cowl

Flew in secrecy
Lindi Schumann flew
was a crime
(almost a Bf 109 victory)!!!

Just a note that had Hitler gotten women into the air as fighter pilots in 1945, they would have flown the Me Bf 109G series, and perhaps if any were suicidal, the Reichenberg R.IV...
