This is the story of 8 year old Precious Reynolds who was scratched by a feral cat at her school in Humboldt County, California. She didn’t report it properly (only requesting a Band-Aid for the scratch) and so did not get the vaccine immediately. When she arrived at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital much later, she was close to death and given only a 2% chance of survival. She slipped into a coma, but then suddenly recovered after a few weeks back to health after being in an induced coma and treated with an antiviral medicine. Precious is of Wiyot Indian descent and a tough little girl that likes to ride sheep in rodeos and wrestle boys on her team at school. She is one tough girl who is only the third person in US history to beat rabies without the vaccine. Wearing a Justin Bieber T-Shirt, her first thoughts were to get back to her cow dog Copper. She returns home June 22, 2011.
