The Lyrics
Oscar was an unknown German black cat that survived the sinking of the Bismarck in 1941. He was named Oscar by the crew of HMS Cossack that had recued him from the sea. That ship was sunk by German U-boat U-563 afterwards, but Oscar survived once more and was picked up only to be transferred to HMS Ark Royal- the aircraft carrier. This was then sunk by U-boat U-81 and Oscar was again pulled from the water. But after this, the British Admiralty had Oscar (now called Unsinkable Sam) transferred from Gibraltar to Belfast where the beloved cat was taken in as a sailor's pet. Oscar died in 1955 yet has an official portrait of himself hanging in the Naval Maritime Museum in Greenwitch!!!
