The Pig Contamination tactic worked against Moro tribesmen because they were Islamic primitives, with a Stone Age mindset. A more modern jihadi mind would be able to reason that Allah will not deny a shahid entrance to heaven based on actions of Islam's enemies, because then you could defeat jihad simply by threatening pig contamination. A Moro tribesman wasn't able to think that one through

The Moros also took drugs, practiced polygamy, slavery, and used children as human shields! I've heard that Muslims are forbidden to use opiates. Apparently, they skirted that by chewing on nuts that got them wired up or on certain mushrooms. As for the pig blood, most say it is exaggerated. Like the "33" story. In that one a Moro took 33 rounds to kill. 32 from a .30-40 Krag and finally by a single .45 Colt round! The facts were he was FIRED at 33 times, but struck 3 times, the Colt bringing him down! Colt .45s replaced all .38DAs and Smith & Wesson revolvers. 12 gauge shotguns were retained because they were the only effective stopping power weapons to combat the Moro at very close range. The typical Moro was only 5' 5" tall but went berserkir mode against enemies while on drugs or altered states of consciousness. Pig blood was only psychological but with the introduction of the Colt .45 and negotiations to build Muslim houses of worship, they quit.

Another problem with that bullet in pig blood story is that blood is sticky. A bullet coated in blood would jam the weapon, I would think .. like it did in that movie "The Hurt Locker"

The rifles were bolt-action Krags. It is possible to fire such a round, but the action and barrel should be greased up and then immediately cleaned afterwards. Btw, Jihawg Ammo made in Idaho exists. It's got pig blood infused paint on the cartridge. Also, the Quran states that Muslims CAN eat pork in desperation if no other means of survival or if forced to eat it by an enemy. No transgression, no sin.

Muslims are permitted to eat pork if it is strictly necessary for survival, or if it is forced upon them. It explicitly states this in the Quran 2:173 “… whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him …”.

Best info I have is that the Pershing story is a total fabrication, based on a letter written 60 years after the war and referring only to an insurgent being tossed alive into a pit containing a dead pig. A story I have read alleges that the Moro juramentados would put tourniquets on their arms and legs to reduce hemorrhaging in the event the limb was struck by a bullet. A .30.40 Krag has considerable more energy than a .45 Colt. It is similar in ballistics to a .303 Enfield, and the British military of the era seemed to find it more than adequate against lightly clothed insurgents.

The Krags and Enfield's were good rifles, but the fighting was fast and close combat much of the time. The .38DAs and other revolvers failed to drop the drugged up or hyped up Moros. So the .45 Colt M1911 was introduced and stopped them cold. Btw, did you know that the Moros also bought rifles? Mostly outdated even black powder, but when they had a Spanish Mauser, they had the advantage.
