The Lyrics

Since 2009 the Bundeswehr has looked for a way to retire the old reliable MG-3 (of the MG-42 line that has been around 72 years). They wanted a more sophisticated and yet practical GPMG with normal ROF around 600 rpm and of lighter weight with railings for scopes and lights, synthetic furniture, swinging butt, and easier to repair and maintain, operate in the field. The answer was an improvement over the HK MG-4 which led to the HK-121 design. Rheinmetall AG, which makes the MG-3, is not left out in the cold b/c they just invented a new revolutionary heavy MG for all German armored vehicles- the RMG-50 which is electrically operated and uses Super 12.7mm ammo. It is a dual feed design superior to anything the US has and will be replacing all MG-3s and M2HBs on armor. The HK-121 will replace all MG-3s on the ground with troops.
HK MG is new
Just in time

MG-3 replacement overdue
And yet still agin'

Bundeswehr demanded it
Too many were around
Although it proved deadly
New GPMG had to be found

[HK-121 design sound]

HK-121 new
And just in time
Since '09

HK 1-2-1 rules
In 7.62 (mm)
Tech is cool
Lighter and more modern
GPMG with flair
Fires 600 (rpm) with ease
Easy to repair

[Weight easy to bear]

Fills a need
HK MG is new
And just in time
(Rheinmetall also has a new MG)*
* Rheinmetall RMG-50 to replace all German and US (M2HB) MGs on German armor

Is this new ammo still interchangeable with the US .50 caliber Browning?

Unknown Patrick... Rheinmetall AG developed the SP 12.7mm ammo specifically for the RMG-50 which is unlike any other MG around. It has single or dual feed modes, cyclic ROF selector, electric-driven bolt and conveyors for linkless ammo and is intended to use sight and other sensor systems from existing German vehicles. To me, the Germans are purging foreign arms from their inventory and moving ahead. The got rid of the Accuracy International sniper rifle with the new HK G-28, modified the G-36 for their troops, are replacing the MG-3 with the HK MG-121, and vehicle MG-3 and M2HBs with the RMG-50. The Leo IIA-7 can also carry the 30mm RMK-30 cannon. All the old stock of Uzis and Beretta SMGs are also being liquidated in favor of the MP-7 PDW. And a plasma rifle is testing. All heavy MGs and cannon are being replaced by Mauser BK 27s and Rheinmetall AG weapons including AA defense with portable auto-tracking guns.

Robert, I noticed that your numbers have dropped significantly, so are you leaving AIR? Or like Mr. Barry- just popping in now and then? FWIW, I like your crazy topics!!!! Bit heavy on the german side and pro-guns/war, but at least you keep us posted on what they're doing and how we're all going to hell in a handbasket. Btw, today is both Easter Sunday AND Hitler's birthday!!!
