Just received a registered letter from Screamin' Jay Hawkins attorney in which Screamin' Jay conveyed his deep appreciation for the 1300-1400 parodies that have been done here of his classic rock-paradigm shifting song, "I Put a Spell on You" -- along with this special Christmas greeting ........ On a personal note, I'm glad to see that Jay took these thousands of parodies in the spirit in which they were written. I mean, seeing as how IPASOY is undoubtedly the worst piece of music to ever get stamped onto a spinning vinyl disk, he might have seen them as an insult

If Jay were alive today he'd be spinning in his grave over the many parodies of his song. They outnumber his many illegitimate children by at least 20 to 1. I must confess that I, too, penned a couple of IPASOY's myself, mostly as a protest against everyone else's IPASOY's,(sounds sort of like Ipecac). See my "Jay Hawkin's Spell" (MacArthur Park) and "Jay Hawkins" (Cecelia) for my views on the subject. "Paralyzed" by The Legendary Stardust Cowboy is the most unlistenable 45 rpm I've ever heard, but "IPASOY" is certainly in close competition.
Undoubtedly destined to become a Christmas classic in another demention :)

Actually Warren I'm already in the club. I popped my Screamin Jay cherry back in January 2011 when I was a newbie. I was just trying to fit in; you know, be one of the guys ..... I've done it four times, and all of them are Amiright in-jokes dealing with the number of times IPASPOY has been parodied.
CML, any ideas about IPASOY parodies dealing with Islam? What term would you use to replace "Spell?" Intifada is too long! Btw, the Glisenti would make a nice paper weight, but you'd have to put up a warning sign that states: WARNING: HAND MINE!!!
I'll be traveling over the weekend, RA, so I can't give you a full response for a few days, but .... Shi'ites believe that the 12th Imam, their version of the Mahdi, is hiding in a well, so "Hid in a Well For You" They think Jews are blasphemer, so "Saved Room in Hell for Jews" or "I've Made a Hell for Jews" .... I'm sure a million suggestions will spring to mind over the next couple of days, but I won't be able to get them down till Sunday
