The Bv Ae.607 (P.217) was a private design study started by Blohm und Voss late in February 1945, so is not officially included in the Project-Class of German aircraft designs. However, data was gathered for the craft which would have been a truly futuristic sight in 1945; indeed, even today, especially if it has been stealth-modified with early RAM and anti-radar paint. The Ae.607 was a flying wing design- a compound delta that started off at 65o and tapered down to 55o. It was to be powered by a single HeS-011 engine of 2865 lb st. But with the wing configuration wrapped around that engine and extended tailpipe, a normal cockpit could not be fitted and the fuel tanks had to be rearranged. The pilot sat back off-center to the left while the main fuel tanks were moved to the starboard side of the engine. The 3x 30mm MK-108 cannon had to be mounted 2 above the nose intake and one directly below it. To add further complications, the gear was odd in that in addition to the two main gear, the tail wheels were tandem as well and extended when dropped for take-off and landings!!! The aircraft was projected to have a speed around 600 mph and a ceiling around 40,000 ft+. Climb would have been great too and the odd aircraft would have had short T/Os and landings. All beneficial in 1945. But the aircraft was also complex and the pilot's view was bad despite the bubble cockpit. Nose canards were added for angle of incidence and slow-speed stability. Very futuristic-looking, the study craft was nicknamed "Vulkan" after the Norse God.
