The Lyrics

The Fw-226 Flitzer was a German aircraft project that started in 1943 as a potential bomber interceptor with either a jet + rocket engine or a jet with rocket boosters for a qucik climb to 23,000 ft to engage. Focke-Wulf designers made it a twin boom with a projected HeS-011 jet engine in development of 3306 lb st. This would give the jet a top speed of between 593-600 mph with rocket assist in one form or another. A third design was pure jet, no rockets added. Armament would be 2x 30mm MK-108 cannons mounted on lower forward fuselage plus 2x 20mm MG-151/20s in the wings. Max ceiling would be 45,000 ft. The designs were wind tunnel tested and a full-scale mock-up of the third version was completed by 1944. But with lack of strategic metals the Fw team was told to redesign the Flitzer in Sept 1944 and Focke-Wulf had insufficient time, so the project was cancelled in October 1944. Focke-Wulf went on to work on the Ta 183 jet fighter in component construction in 1945 which postwar led to both the MiG-15 and the Argentine Pulqui II jet fighter.
Flitzer was a twin boom
waste of time

Cheap jet fighter for last-ditch use
In three versions
Metal conservin’

HeS would power it
Boosters bolted down
MKs, MGs deadly
Quick climb to 23,000 (ft)

[Intercept bombers meant for towns]

Flitzer was a twin boom
But waste of time
Re-designed

Tough to choose
Tough to choose
Tough to choose
They went with Model 3
Metal was scarce
Engine not ready
Could not meet needs

[Ta 183]

Model testing
Flitzer was a twin boom
But waste of time
(Mock-up found in Germany)
