The Lyrics
Built to a 1943 specification for a heavy Tank Destroyer the Jagtiger was an extension of the Tiger family; specifically, the Tiger II on which the new 128mm PAK 44 L/55 gun was laid upon. Not much difference between the two except for a slightly longer hull, the massive fixed superstructure for the new gun, and added armor up to 10" for the front and between 3-5" on the sides. Again, tanks barely scratched it and so AT aircraft were called in to fire rockets at it or bomb it. But most of the 77 produced from July '44-May 1945 just ran out of ammo or fuel or more likely broke-down due to the weight factor, even with torsion bar suspension and wide tracks. When this happened it was almost impossible to move. SOP was for another Jadgtiger or King Tiger to move it with cables which could cause a break-down with the recovery tank!!! The Jagdtiger tanks were only provided to 2 units on the Western Front that served in the Ardennes with the King Tiger or in Germany proper by itself. Jagdtiger is known for attempting to attack the bridge at Remagen on March 10, 1945 unsuccessfully. Due to the large gun only 40 rds were carried internally...
