The Lyrics

Most people that know WW2 aircraft never forget the Fi-156 Storch STOL aircraft and its incredible capabilities... but seldom remember the OTHER Fieseler- the 167 which was supposed to be the third aircraft onboard the Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier after the Me Bf 109T and Ju-87C. The Fi-167 was to serve as a fleet recon bird and also a torpedo bomber much like the British Swordfish, only much better. It had the handling qualities of the Fi-156 Storch with low speed handling superb; indeed, Fieseler vertically sank the 167 from 10,000 ft down to 100 ft over the same spot! The aircraft at low speed loiter could almost hover like a helicopter. But this bird had a DB 601B engine of 1100 hp, a speed of 202 mph, range of almost 1000 miles with 80 gal drop tank, and armamanet of 2x 7.92 MGs plus could carry a 1000 kg bomb or a 1700 lb torpedo! In case of emergency ditching, the main gear could be jettisoned beforehand! Only 12 were built and as the GZ work slowed to a crawl, these were deployed to the Netherlands for coastal duties. By 1943 they had used up their usefulness as test machines and were practically given free to Rumania with one aircraft retained for engine testing. A great shame as this could have been a great sea bird. But it was not meant to be. Many camouflage schemes were tested on the Fi-167 first that were later used on Messerschmitts late-war... its only legacy :(
Fieseler jewel
role declined

Graf Zeppelin’s recon bird flew
Role test flyin’
Torp-bomber tryin’

Performance-excellent
Aircraft sink astounds
Combat load heavy
The light 1-6-7 was sea-bound

[Until carrier work was slowed down]

Fieseler jewel
role declined
Over time...

Put to use
Put to use
Put to use
Patrol in Netherlands
Light recon there
And engine testing
Met all demands

[No ship-launch plans]

Was no need
Fieseler jewel
role declined
(some given to Rumania for free)
