Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

He was born, Lester William Polfus
Nine-teen fifteen, the year
In the town, Waukesha, Wisconsin
Had a fine tuned music ear
Played gui-tar gigs at thirteen,
Show biz-ness was his call
In the thirties jazzed chicago,
No one picked like ol' Les Paul

Just listen to the bass beat,
Your favorite classic tune
Every note as pure as raindrops
On an April afternoon
Pioneered electric echos,
Strummed a storm, was loved by all
A gifted gui-tar player
No one picked like ol' Les Paul..

As his career was climbin'
Had a great idea, one day
Cut some multi-tracks of "Lover"
And a star was on his way..
Mary Ford became the singer,
"Tiger Rag", "How High The Moon"
The critics and the public
Said, "Ol Paul sure picks a tune.."

Oh listen to that bass beat,
Your favorite classic tune
Every note as pure as raindrops
On an April afternoon
Pioneered electric echos,
Strummed a storm, was loved by all
A gifted guitar player,
No one picked like ol' Les Paul..

Here's to Lester Polfus,
His fame shall ever stand
And he will be remembered
As a gui-tar picker, grand
Called the Wizard of Waukesha,
Till his maker came to call
He passed away last August,
No one picked like ol' Les Paul..

Just listen to that bass beat,
Your favorite country tune
Every note as pure as raindrops
On an April afternoon
Pioneered electric echos,
Strummed a storm, was loved by all
A gifted guitar player,
No one picked like ol' Les Paul.

No one picked like ol' Les Paul..

A worthy subject well executed. I share your opinion and am patiently waiting for the Les Paul of the trombone to appear. ;D

Great tribute! Someone should compose on original "Kickin" guitar "face melting" song, honoring this great pioneer!!!

DKTOS but a great tribute to the best player of his era. I watched a TV documentary about him last week. Great story about how he made the first double-track recorder.

The line, "In the town, Waukesha, Wisconsin", is a little wordy, when "In Waukesha, Wisconsin" is just as effective. (Pronounced WAW-kuh-Shaw, but I'm sure you knew that.). 555

A touching tribute to Les Paul, though I don't know too much about him. I just caught him on YouTube and watched 2 clips of Les Paul and Mary Ford show and he's quite the guitar player. I'll read more about him, though. 555.

Ironically (or is that 'iconically'), Les than the sum of its parts!

Sorry! Should have read "Les is *more* than the sum of its parts!"
