The Lyrics

Let me tell the story, and I'll tell it all
About the Airforce flying team, who climb to Heaven's wall
Precision is their calling - poised as deer in herds
The crack F-16 sguadron - that they call The Thunderbirds

Stationed in Nevada - soar across the land
Displaying high fly talent, Nineteen-Fifty-Three, began
Safe-ty first for each other - could be their code in words
Red, white, blue's the color of their planes, The Thunderbirds

(CHORUS)
They roar like thunder, thunder, they're the Thunderbirds
Flying close formation, as they shame the wind and birds
While we - watch in - wonder - at great skills rehearsed
Low zoom brings high surprises - like a sound bar-ri-er burst..

Last year got shut down - by the budget cuts
But this year back in the saddle - flexin' all their struts
They glide their half a dozen - across a clear blue sky
And show folks in America - how marvelous they fly

Sixty-one years going - many hearts they've thrilled
There is the danger element - three pilots have been killed
They have to train for three years - just to make the team
Two female pilots have been there - and realized their dream

They roar like thunder, thunder, they're the Thunderbirds
Flying close formation, as they shame the wind and birds
While we - watch in - wonder - at great skills rehearsed
High zoom brings more surprises - like a trick called Delta Burst

Sketching trails in Heaven - revving up their jets
Spaced just three feet between them - skill as good as it gets
Amazing high performance - rocket science fed
It takes a heart of lions - and one mega cool head

Catch these flying heroes, watch them weave suspense
You'll file exciting mem'ries - a grand experience
And feel the pride of country - spirit of our land
Reflections of the freedom - of the soil on which we stand

They roar like thunder, thunder, they're the Thunderbirds
Flying close formation, as they shame the wind and birds
While we - watch in - wonder - at great skills in flight
The Thunderbirds display again their aerobatic might...

Bird Man - May 19, 2014 - Report this comment
The shows were cut due to Sequestration but this season the T'Birds will fly 34 times. Btw, there have been four female flyers and this years No.3 will be flown by Jensen and with her female crew chief, one of only two on the show line. The USAF has severe budget cuts, so other programs have been sacrificed so that the T'Birds can shine. The jumpers got shafted and so did other demonstrators.

Just a month before 9/11 I watched from the Broadway Bridge as the Thunderbirds performed at the Kansas City air show. Typical of government bogus economy measures: cut the visible and popular things such as air shows, national parks, post offices, while the overpaid assistant deputy directors of paper shuffling go their merry ways.
