"Modern Science Teacher"

Parody Written by:

Marsh Carroll

The Lyrics

High School Science Teaching Methods are the focus of this tune !
I am the very model of a modern science teacher
I guide my students from the side and never play the preacher
I foster their discoveries and teach them to inquire
And ask high order questions that are certain to inspire.

I build my class community with many an icebreaker
I honor student cultures be they Buddhist Jew or Quaker
I always do assessments be they formative or summative
I follow all directives even when I think they’re dumb-ative.

I teach for understanding and I plan my lessons backwardly
I do cool demonstrations though at times I do them awkwardly
In short in all the ways that I could ever think to feature
I am the very model of the modern science teacher.

In short in all the ways that he could ever think to feature
He is the very model of the modern science teacher.

I always differentiate yet have high expectations
I teach at a UNESCO school as in United Nations
I am a strong proponent of much interdisciplinarity
I tell some jokes so I maintain a feeling of hilarity.

I know the ways to motivate both extra and intrinsic
I know a dozen rhymes for the words intra and extrinsic
I always team with colleagues and am happy to collaborate
And if you really care I would be happy to elaborate.

There’s lesson plans and unit plans and on-line simulations
Constructivist approaches with their deep investigations
These are my teaching methods, some are basic some are classy,
And there may be many others but they haven’t come to Massey.

These are his teaching methods some are basic some are classy
And there may be many others but they haven’t come to Massey!

This is a very humorous adaptation of a difficult song, but many lines lack one syllable; "interdisciplinarity" has one too many. 3-5-4

A few pacing errors stopped it from being a great parody....perhaps you may have been a little hasty to release it ( I do it all the time )....I have not seen the video yet.....break a leg

Mr. Carroll, you seem to be a good person and probably an effective science teacher. Please stick to science. You are not a lyricist! In my original lyrics, all of my rhymes involved 3 syllables. In your effort, you used 3 syllable rhyming three times – summative/dumb-ative (that one was clever), interdisciplinarity/hilarity, and collaborate/elaborate. If you had done that throughout your parody, I would not be turning over in my grave. But by claiming that your words are somehow a parody of my classic song, you have done me a grave injustice (pun intended).
