Song Parodies -> "It Had to Be Hugh (Hefner)"

Original Song Title:

"It Had to Be You"

Original Performer:

Perry Como

Parody Song Title:

"It Had to Be Hugh (Hefner)"

Parody Written by:

Rex Ungericht

The Lyrics

It had to be Hugh
It had to be Hugh
He wandered around
And finally found
Somebody who’d
Agree to pose nude
Some labeled it lewd
But others were glad
Scantily clad
Gals could be viewed

I’m sure you’ll agree
Nineteen fifty-three
Was not well prepared
For breasts to be bared
It still was taboo
Voluptuous dames undressed to kill*
Pubescent boys getting a thrill
That centerfold view
Naughty and new
And published by Hugh

It brought him acclaim
But now it seems tame
That Playboy mystique
No longer unique
As copycats grew
‘Cause time marches on as you’re aware
And girls gone wild are now everywhere
But I’m telling you
Give him his due
It started with Hugh
* In American slang, “dressed to kill” means wearing one’s most stylish and sophisticated apparel.

nicely written...compared to what's out there now, playboy in the 50s seems pretty quaint, which fits the tone of the OS well

Thanks stuart. This is actually an updated version of the original, which I submitted to Playboy many years ago. They rejected it saying that they didn't print poetry.
