The Lyrics

With thanks to Guy for providing the inspiration for this one with his recent "Binary in Eighths" / Henry the Eighth parody
We humans always count in tens
That's all the fingers we have gaught
Computers, on the other hand
Can only count in ones and noughts

Zeros and ones are quite fundamental
'Cause binary's your Mac's back end
And floating-point sums may be quite temperamental
Because 0.1 in binary just can't be done

PCs try, then crash and die
So they have to round down and pretend
Their lack of precision
Should cause much derision
Binary's your Mac's back end

....Decimal? ... Octal? ...
Talk to me, Paper Clip Einstein, tell me all about it!

Eight bits make a byte and that often perplexes
But binary's your Mac's back end
Base two-fifty six is far worse than hex is
You might count if Fs
If FF's effin' effortless
Less complex to work in hex
And half-bytes ain't hard to comprehend
And who's gonna quibble with four bits a nibble?
Binary's your Mac's back end

I've heard libraries can be duodecimal
But binary's your Mac's back end
But base twelve, you see, would be - quite abysmal
To abridge: it'll be better if it's digital
PCs count a huge amount
As pure numbers they start to transcend
They're heroic heros
Those great ones and zeros

Binary! Binary!
- I don't mean octal -
Yes, binary's your Mac's back end

If FF's effin' effortless

This is effin' byteless. er, priceless. So what is your effin' MAC address anyway, Phil? I'm glad to have inspired this. Here's your effin' votes - figure 'em out. 22B

I may have lost my ponytail, but I haven't lost my software engineer's geekish appreciation for THIS kind of parody! Wonderful work, Philbo.

555 for you, don't remember enough programming to write that in hex or 256 bit or whatever. Love the math parodies though!

JUST today, I was thinking of doing this OS, Phil - doesn't that seem to happen a lot - I'm sure you just wanted an excuse to use "If FF's effin' effortless" - LOL - 555

Guy - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the binary tip-off
JD - I've not lost mine, yet...
Red Ant - I don't think you really need to be a programmer to get this (but it helps ;-) )
Stuart - I think the one that got me started was actually "And who's gonna quibble with four bits a nibble?", though I did have to restructure that verse to fit the FF line once I thought of it...
