The Lyrics

Yes, yes,
There was a dance contest
A marathon promoted in our town
Prize, prize,
A thousand dollar prize
I grabbed my wife, we entered,
But, I found...

I Couldn't Dance All Night
I Couldn't Dance All Night
My feet cried out, "No more!"
I couldn't spread my wings
And do a thousand things,
Just reached six eighty four..
And I sure know what made it so exciting
When I gave up, we had an awful fight
When it was half past three
I said, that's it for me..
I Couldn't Dance, Dance, Dance, all night !

I Couldn't Dance All Night
No way, no chance I might,
So, I walked off the floor
I couldn't spread my wings,
It's hard to spread those things,
I said, "You spread, You Whore !"
She kicked my part,
Her ass, I started biting..
They called the cops, a trip downtown, our plight..
Both in a cell, we was
And it was all because,
I Couldn't Dance, Dance, Dance, All Night !

I Couldn't Dance, Dance, Dance, All Night !

Very well written - 5's. I thought people quit marathon dancing after the Thirties. Did you ever see the movie "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"? During the Thirties people were so desparate for a little money that they would enter marathon dance contests that went on for days. After it was over the winners didn't get the money they were offered, but were billed for food and board.

Thanks, alvin, and Rick ....and thanks, 2Eagle.....Yeah, not many of those old dance contests around these days...but I'm in Ohio...and once in a while some regional contest will still spring up.....and with the renewed interest in ballroom dancing, since those tv reality shows......who knows, marathons might make a comeback, too.. And yeah, I saw that old movie you mention..good one..
