The Lyrics

I'm torn by the events in Wisconsin and those breaking out in other states. Let's just say that my beliefs, life experiences, and inside knowledge permit me to see points on both sides more than most people. ANYWAY, I'll address the proceedings in the usual way...a (hopefully humorous) song. ;D

Way up in Wisconsin, there's no talk of Green Bay.
The folks are all watchin' another big melee.
Not the Packers, or Badger Basketball.
Battle lines forming - the State House a mob is storming.
They are protesting, loudly contesting -
Not there for resting, or Octoberfesting.
It's the public
Unions who've massed so they won't
Take all their assests away.

Who is right and who's wrong?
I won't judge in this song.
There's been no vi'lence - good sense!
Just doctor abuses. They're writing excuses
For the folks in the crowd.
"Stuff it, boss! I'm allowed!".
And there's support, sport! Big unions the land wide
Coming from the outside today!

There's much less disorder than down on the border,
And none of those mean tricks from L.A. and Phoenix.
'Though Bill Ayres would - love to see things blown up,
Folks from Milwaukee - are no fans of mass anarchy.
With the vote nearing, guess who's disappearing?
Dems who are fearing the voters they're hearing.
It just might be
There're no clear-cut good guys but
It's not for Ribber to say.

Union busting or not?
Deficits must be fought.
'Cause it's not D.C. - sadly.
The debt is not funny - a state can't print money.
For all the gang in the street
Teachers take all the heat.
So heed this show, Joe. Protests have begun, son.
Your state is the next one in play!

You'll have to excuse me if I say something dumb in my comments, I know very little about politics, so if I misunderstand something, I apologize. :-(

I have to admit, from a humor perspective. . .well, I found it not as much humorous as reflective. . .that said--I don't think that this topic is easy to make humorous--but sometimes a parody that is reflective is more important. I like how you don't take a strong stance on this one as its clearly an issue you have mixed opinions about--I also have mixed opinions. Personally the states, not just Wisconsin, who are having to cut our Education Budgets, Road Budgets, and ultimately State Employees from their payrolls cause it by lavish spending in good times. Unemployment and other taxes went to pet projects in most states when times were good, states are supposed to build up Unemployment funds and reserve tax money in good times to offset the bad times, neither the federal government or local state governments did that at all. In fact, some states like New Jersey and Michigan saved so little that they had to begin boring from the Federal Government not in 2008 or 2009 when the recession really bottomed out, but in 2006. . .almost right at the beginning of it. Its sickening, but tax holidays and excessive spending on pet projects by both parties--and not just on the federal level, it's disgusting, but it will happen again, and again, and again, because "Tax Holidays" and million dollar local light rail campaigns make good politics . . .
