The Lyrics

Well, in twenty and oh-five we took a little trip
along with all our buddies down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little cash and we took a little beads,
And we caught the Mardis Gras near the town of New Orleans.

We throwed our beads and the chicks they kept a flashin'.
And now there's even more than there was a while ago.
We throwed once more and they began to runnin'
down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Well, I seen meteoroligists walkin 'round and just then
he was talkin' to a guy who said that this is CNN
He gave us a warning 'bout some more trouble than a scud
and soon a major storm that would make the city mud.

The news said Andrew used to be number one,
but Katrina's is a comin' with a bullet in her gun.
Old FEMA said they didn't give a dang,
we gonna miss the twitches of the hurricane.

We stopped our fun and the winds they kept a'comin.
They seemed a little higher than they was a while ago.
We delayed once more and figured that we'd start to runnin'
if the storm came in from the Gulf of Mexico.

Well, we looked down the river and we seen the rains come,
and there must have been them thunderstorms beatin' like a drum.
They stormed so high and they made their hearing ring
while we stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

Things flying all around us sure was quite a surprise
but we didn't know hurricanes got calmer in the eyes.
We held out until the center came and spared us hell,
Til again the eye passed and Katrina began to yell.

We crapped our pants and the storm it kept a'comin.
There wasn't any power like there was a while ago.
We looked outside and saw the we were surrounded
We were in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

Well, we dialed our phones til the system melted down,
so we grabbed an alligator and we rode him around town,
We didn't care what PETA thought, didn''t pay 'em no mind,
and actually it was all the transportation we could find.

We can't go home and we'll never be content
till we get cash and apology from Bush the President.
But it all don't matter, the levees are bustin' at the seams,
Welcome to the swimmin' hole we call New New Orleans.

0-for-2. Maybe you should try writing about another subject.

Sophomoric at best, otherwise just plain not funny. At all. Reminds me of something that could've been written by that sneering kid who sat in the back of your high school English class. You know, the one who scribbled doodles of cars with flames on his notebook?

Hey, I thought it was great! Hooray for controversial parodies!

I don't see what all the fuss is over. Johnny wouldn't have minded. The song told a story about an event and showed the truth about how "casual" some folks took the warning; such as the many that had to be "shown" to believe.

I played shows with Johnny, and he would have been in hysterics over this parody. FYI, there wasn't a biggoted cell in Johnny's body and he wouldn't tolerate it in his presence. Now that death has forever silenced his Concert, his memory is as bright as our last meeting. He would have wanted us to enjoy all his music, even in satire, at he was very good himself!
