I recall when I was a youth, we were poor and uncouth.
And we only had one pair of shoes.
But we loved one another, and learned from our Mother:
“You have to save those shoes for your little brother.”

Yes, we were poor then, but hard working.
Some people thought we dressed in rags.
But we knew our soles were protected
With those good ol’ white bread bags.

When there was rain or snow, before we could go,
We put bread bags on our feet.
To protect the soles of our shoes, saves us from “wet feet blues”,
We put bread bags on our feet.
