Election's round the bend
I ain't heard much factual
Since I don't know when
I'm stuck here by the TV
And time keeps draggin' on
But them candidates keep talkin'
Jes' goin' on and on

Way back in my school days
My teacher said “Now kids
Elections are important
They're how the country rids
The guvamint of people
With whom they disagree”
But careful as I listen
Ain't no one speaks to me

First bunch says the other's
A bunch of lyin' fools
Second says the first one's
Some dirty devils' tools
I only wish't that someone
Could jes' pretend I'm smart
All this hissin' snake-y forked tongue
It dog-gone breaks my heart

There's lots of angry folks right now
Who'll never compromise
It's their way and no other
Don't never ask 'em why
They say they sure love freedom
But somehow they don't see
A freedom to be different
We call democracy
