The Lyrics

Originally an Easter song, in Latin, the English lyrics were composed by John Mason Neale circa 1853.
"Good King Wenceslas" we sing
Each year in December
Who he was and what he did
I do not remember
Was he wise and generous?
Miserly and frugal?
If I wish to know of this
I will have to Google

Wikipedia's the page
Where I shall seek knowledge
It's a tool I wish I had
When I was in college
As I read the article
At computer station
Banner headline comes in sight
Asking a donation

When young Wence was just a lad
Grandma spoke, he heard her
Mother came back in his life
After Grandma's murder
Though a good man, he had foes
Same as any other
Franks and Magyars, Saxons bold,
Boleslav his brother

Came the night of Steven's Feast
Ne'er had cold winds blown more
Fit occasion for the deed
Wenceslas is known for
Said he to a hungry man,
"Take of this and eat quick!
I'm Duke of Bohemians
That makes you a Beatnik".

Pope named Wenceslas a king
Honor would have thrilled him
But before he got his crown
Boleslav had killed him
On September Twenty Eight
Crowds to view are pushin'
Cardinal bears his severed head
On a velvet cushion

Like most European rulers of the era, Duke Wenceslas' brief life was marked by palace intrigues as well as foreign threats. Through it all, he maintained a reputation for erudition, piety and generosity to the poor. The Wikipedia article this parody is based on pictures the Cardinal of Prague carrying the skull of Saint Wenceslas, with golden crown, in an annual procession held on Czech Statehood Day.
