The Lyrics

The Skoda-Kauba V5 was the last piston fighter developed by the Third Reich in 1945. Little is known of the craft which looked like a hybrid bastard child of a Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Fw-190. It had a long fuselage, DB 603 engine at 1800 hp (2100 hp WEP), a tubular steel wing crossbar with ventilated ribs, wide inward retracting land gear and semi-retracting tail wheel, quad 20mm MG-151/20s (two per wing), TKL supercharger, Revi 16 sight, ejection seat, and 4 blade spinner. The RLM rejected it due to emphasis on new jets: Go-229, Fw Ta 183, and Me P.1101. It would have had a speed of 475 mph, ceiling of 42,000 ft, and range of nearly 600 miles. Skoda-Kauba also had a ramjet P.014.
Invasion, we're not spared
Nazi troops are everywhere
Otto Kauba is prepared
Offers aircraft pioneers
So they build by night and day
Versuch aircraft on display
Pusher prop, twin boom, weird frames
Firm never gains fame
All the Messers and the Fockes
RLM another blocker
But Kauba has a shocker
Advanced trainer is a gawker
Thousand ordered in a minute
But this war- they cannot win it
Pressing on to next decision
Last prop fighter is a winner
Trying to keep some hope alive
With the Skoda-Kauba V5
Max speed 475 (mph)
Quad 20s (mm), and DB pride
(Tubular steel, landing gear is wide)

... not justified???

Jets rule in 1945

Mock-up stands, records burned, Hitler's suicide... (Alles Kaput)

Yes, it is fascinating because Germany basically had just 3 fighters of WW2: the Bf 109 series, Fw-190 series (including the Ta 152), and the Me-262 jet. But early on, there were missed opportunities with the Fw-187 Falke and He-100 that could have made a difference over Britain and the western front. Also little known is that Germany made an agreement with Italy for the Fiat G.55 Centauro with German upgrades. That would have been the G.56. The deal fell through when Italy switched sides in 1943. And while the He-162 became the second operational jet fighter in April 1945 with JG 1 at Leck... the Skoda-Kauba V5 was wind tunnel testing and a full mock-up made. As seen in the upper pic, it is a remarkable late war design considering the opposition from Dornier with the Do-335 Pfeil.

With Hitler's military "genius" and micromanagement, I doubt any weapon could have made much difference. Superior tanks and planes could be and were overwhelmed by the vast industrial output of the US and USSR. Not to forget the endless manpower of the Soviets.

The USSR and US were not in the war in 1940. Had Doenitz gotten his 300 U-boats in the N Atlantic, then Britain could have been starved into submission... what Churchill feared and wrote in his memoirs. The RAF FC was slowly being destroyed too until Goering persuaded Hitler to change to civilian bombing. The Fw-187 or He-100 instead of the lousy Bf 110 could have killed far more Hurris and Spits and protected the bombers and Stukas better. With the RAF neutralized the 45 min trip to cross would have been easier even with the RN. The LW planned to hit the ships with 2 ton aerial mines as well as carry 20,000 other troops via Ju-52, DFS-230 gliders, and the huge Ju-322 Mammut (Mammoth). Britain only had a weak Home Guard with improvised weapons and poor training.
