Original Song Title:

"Let There Be Peace on Earth"

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Let's Sing a Hymn in Church"

Parody Written by:

Patrick McWilliams

The Lyrics

I once attended a church which altered the traditional lyrics of songs to remove gender specific language, such as "Creator" instead of "Father" or "neighbor" rather than "brother". Here is my take on the practice
Let's sing a hymn in church
Corrected politically
It's still the same old song
Without words like "he" and "she"

God, though Creator
Father may not be
Let me walk with my neighbor
'cause brother's not PC

Let change begin with me
Let this be the moment now
With every verse I sing
I'll alter the words somehow

To take each pronoun
And twist each pronoun
Until it's gender-free
Let's sing a hymn in Church
Corrected politically

I think many Christian churches are making these changes. I am glad that they're leaving "He's got the whole world in His hands" alone, and I like your take, Patrick.

I think we went to the same church - I've sung it as "with god as our center, family all are we". Got so disgusted I re-wrote the song, now it's all about beer. 555

One reason I don't go to church anymore. The singing couldn't be more inane.

Love this! I couldn't believe that we actually sang this song at church with the original words 2 weeks in a row, but both versions of the wording were in the songbook, and I could hear a few voices here & there singing the politically correct ones. The choir was using the original words, though.
