The Lyrics

Before posting, I searched for other parodies on this tune and found AirFarceWon's "It Might as Well Be String", which made me almost decide not to post this. AFW's effort is the best raw comic parody I've seen here. Perfect scanning, laughs all fall in the right places, very clever use of the original when warranted. Combine all that with a topic that's close enough, broadly speaking, to the original (longing, love,...sex, etc) so you know you're still in the same ballpark, but lend the new one a sensibility that knocks the older one for a loop, and you've got a great parody. That's how it's done, folks.Check it out if you haven't already. Hope mine doesn't seem too small in comparison.
In the autumn I watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza
When the snowflakes fall it's Topper and Sky King
But now all the buds are a-sproutin'
So it's Marcus Welby Spring

I've Loved Lucy, and I've often Dreamed of Jeannie
Laughed as Darren and Samantha had their fling
It's time for some manufactured pathos
So it's Marcus Welby Spring

Nine o'clock I'll start each episode
Sure he'll find the cure by ten
And he lets young Doctor Kiley help
When it's O.B.G.Y.N.

On the Superstation black-and-white's now color
On the networks vapid game shows are the thing
But there's a Netflix package in my mailbox
And I pray the phone won't ring
When I tell my spouse
"There's a doctor in the house!"
And we weep aloud and cling
It's Ma-ar-cus We-el-by Spring

title of the day and the parody lived up to the promise

Great writing and very funny, but are you watching some cable that is stuck in a sixties time warp?

First off, let me thank you for the billboard boost....and I'm sure glad you did post this...very unique in concept, great off beat humor and excellently written...it would make a fine theme song for the "TV Land" channel

John, Alvin---Thanks for the 5s and the thoughts. 2Eagle---The old saw "If you remember the 60s, you weren't there" doesn't apply to the folks at TVL (although, to be honest, I haven't seen any "Marcus Welby" reruns lately, but once I had the title I wasn't about to throw it away). "Topper" is still around, and as for "Sky King"---well, it rhymes. A great concept show it was, too---a guy, a plane, and a babe. I'd be surprised if AFW can't make something of that. Thanks for the compliment. AFW--Keep up your great work. I apologize for not having commented on your parodies (or on anyone else's, for that matter) but I'm just getting used to this place. Unique, in my humble opinion, as are some of the talents who bravely soldier on here.
