The Lyrics

I wrote this several months ago, didn't know what the tune was. When I sang it for a local songwriter (and stone knife maker), he said it sounded like Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart". I looked it up, and he was right. So, I guess that makes this a parody. Got a couple more verses than Hank did. But I just checked and my artistic license hasn't expired yet.
Jealousy is an ugly thing, a man can lose his head
Now the one who meant the world to me lies cold and still and dead
I couldn't hit a barn's broad side, but I hit my mark somehow
I didn't miss you yesterday, but I sure miss you now

I walked into that honkytonk and I saw you in the crowd
You looked real fine, and you were mine, it made me feel so proud
But you went and kissed another guy, I pulled my gun, "Kerpow!"
I didn't miss you there that night, but I sure miss you now

He said "You are a dad-blamed fool, just look at what you've done.
You went and shot my little sis with your tin-plate pocket gun
I just stopped by to tell her 'Hi', now she's bleedin' like a sow".
I didn't miss her there that night, but I sure miss her now

I'm stuck inside this little room with bars upon the door
I had to use the mop again as my tears rolled down the floor
I'll be here till my trial begins, the bail is fifty thou
I didn't miss her there that night, but I sure miss her now

The judge said "Ninety-seven years". He could of gave me life
When I'd seen she was still breathing, I pulled my switchblade knife
Though my eyes were filled with tears of rage, I found my mark somehow
I didn't miss her there that night, but I sure miss her now

I've been in here for fifteen years, with eighty-two to go
I ask them to release me, the parole board just says, "No".
If I'd only took the time to think, we'd be together now
I didn't miss her long ago, but I sure miss her now.
