The Lyrics
Based on a half parody people used to sing around this time of year. I decided to extend it a bit. I thought this would be an appropriate tune for my last parody of 2022. I enjoy watching 10 year old reruns of American Pickers on the local oldies channel. Back before Danielle's arms were completely covered in ugly tattoos.
Above the shop on Seventh Street
There hangs a neon sign
It's been there now for many a year
They call it Lang's Old Sign
For Lang's old sign he's come
For Lang's old sign
A picker named Mike Wolfe has come
For Lang's old sign
The paint is faded glass is gone
A nest of sparrows hatch
"This thing's a piece of rusty gold,
I wouldn't change a scratch".
"There's money to be made, I know
If I can get it cheap
Collectors will be at my door
If I'm not in too deep".
Lang's grandson will negotiate
The old, familiar dance
He'll hold out for a few bucks more
He has to take the chance
The deal is done, they both shake hands
The sign is in the van
When Mike Wolfe sells it for big bucks
He'll be a happy man.
