The Lyrics

This entry is intended as a serious torch song parody of the original ballad, written to the 1941 version of the melody and lyrics. There is no attempt at humor here.
Alas,
My love has done me wrong.
My great romance is over.
My heart must move along.

Alas,
Again I'm fellin' blue.
You're just another rover.
I cry 'cause you weren't true.

I found you schemed and that you lied, too.
Your lies were meant for me alone.
Our love was grounded, then it died, too.
Alas, I shoud have known.

You're bile,
You haven't any class.
You'll never get to Heaven.
You'll rot in Hell, Alas!
I hope some torch singer finds this to be an exciting addition to a performance. reshaffer@cpp.edu
