The Lyrics

Strap yourself in, 'cause I'm taking the old MG out for another spin. Hope I don't get any moving violations this time.
I am the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical
I've information I must share, I'm very analytical
I know the woes of ending lines with rhymes not trisyllabical
From morn' to noon I watch the tunes for usage incompatible

I 'm very well acquainted too with patter unacceptable
I understand persuasion, both absurd and dialectical
About my only virtue is I'm teeming with a lot o' views
With many clever ways to say what words to use and not to use

With many clever ways to say what words to use and not to use
With many clever ways to say what words to use and not to use
With many clever ways to say what words to use and not to use

I'm very good at integrating pithy mots and ref'rences
I am the finest critic and I always state my pref'rences
In short, in info I must share, I'm very analytical
I am the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

In short, in info he must share, he's very analytical
He is the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

I know the histrionics and linguistics of the songs I spoof
I pan the bards who cross my way for ditties laced with wrongs and goofs
I note in phrases technical the timing bumps that I observe
In phonics I can floor the most fastidious of lines I've heard

I smell a lout a mile away, I always spot a wannabe
I know the phony ploys they use and when they're coming on to me
And I can spot a single glitch that strays from the original
Then vote in numbers one and two, both analog and digital

Then vote in numbers one and two, both analog and digital
Then vote in numbers one and two, both analog and digital
Then vote in numbers one and two, both analog and digital

And I can write a bashing comment full of gross hyperbole
And tell in ev'ry detail why the song is most absurd to me
In short, in info I must share, I'm very analytical
I am the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

In short, in info he must share, he's very analytical
He is the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

When I no longer hear the phrases 'get a life' and 'give it up'
When I can sell the words I write and make enough to live it up
When I'm besieged by groupies and surprises in my dressing room
And when I know precisely what it's like to have my tresses groomed

When I have learnt what makes you laugh and keeps you coming back for more
When I have agents asking if I have another track to score
In short, when I've a following of fans who want a kiss from me
You'll say no better spoofer ever made it big in history

You'll say no better spoofer ever made it big in history
You'll say no better spoofer ever made it big in history
You'll say no better spoofer ever made it big in history

With my annoying knowledge, though, I'm lucky to be sharin' it
A student in a school of thought, a few who even care a bit
In short, in info I must share, I'm very analytical
I am the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

In short, in info he must share, he's very analytical
He is the very symbol of a spoofer hypercritical

Bravo, Leo! Fine pacing, consistent theme, and meets the metaform. The only nits I might pick this time are too pipcayune to mention. :-)

i can relate completely...mammoth job on this

Just found this gem... and I find myself hyper-laud-ical! You and Tommy Turtle have absolutely got this thing you call 'pacing' absolutely down!

If you can do this one, you can do "MacArthur Park." Go get 'em!

It may be a little too early, but I think you just won ABC-I with this parody. This was brilliant, and the rhyming was amazing. 5s from me.

I agree with above - great job on this. You kept the theme, pacing and rhyme throughout and must have stayed awake during Vocabulary in the English classes - certainly wrth 5's.

How did I miss this first time around? Marvellous stuff.. though it did make me think:
I am the very model of a critic, hypocritical
I rarely rate well, but berate especially political
You writer guys often despise and call me parasitical
But I have fun voting you 1s.. and don't it make you spit...ical

(ABC) Very good stuff...almost describes me to a T. :) I regret not having time to get into more of your work, Leo. You got the knack!

(ABC05I)

This is the very model of a mock of the original.

One of the better "Major Genneral's" song I've seen in a while. I can appreciate the work that went into this one. I did this one once just to obtain "Big 7" status. As I recall it was the longest write I'd ever completed. Well done.

(ABC) yes, you did the old lady proud, Leo, with exemplary pacing and internal rhymes, and I've gotta say I like the trick where the contrived rhyme is the first in the couplet, which makes the natural second look like a miracle (eg. kiss from me / history) - in your inevitable Big 7, this will easily justify its place - 555

(ABC5I) Definitey the best MG parody I['ve read. Never lost your place, never missed a syllable or fumbled a stressing and you packed a s much humour into it as humanly possible. 555 (doy).

Doing the MG's song isn't hard, doing it well is. Excellent flow, and great job nailing the stresses and trisyllablic rhymes.

I agree on Red Ant's comment, I can't say I got huge laughs out of it personally--I hope you don't take that personally, because I really do respect what you did with this--it's very difficult to do the trisyllabic rhymes in here, but the song's had so many brilliant ideas done to it that it's become very difficult for me to get huge laughs out of parodies of it.

This one reminds me a lot of my own MG song "Why Can't You Guys Write Anything But Major Modern General?" but you took a different slant on it and wrote about be a parodist all together which was a pretty good idea and a lot of big words were used in here which is kind of like a homage to the original song.

Excellent job on a tough OS. The pacing was immaculate, and funny throughout

Fantastic, Leo. The rhyming and pacing was superb.
As far as the humor goes...let's not confuse "funny" with "witty" or "clever". They all have their place. This is indeed very witty and very clever and very well written.
Why do I hear this being sung by Major Winchester ?
