Parody Song Title:

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

After listening to The Blind Boys of Alabama perform "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun", I became fascinated by the many permutations this melody could take and the number of disparate songs that could be interchanged. Here is another bizarre example.
There is a house in N'Orleans
That they call "The Rising Sun"
It's been the ruin of many
Lordy, don't you know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
Sewed a pair of new blue jeans
My daddy was a gambler
In the town of New Orleans

Only things a gambler needs
Suitcase and a trunk
Only time he's satisfied
When he's on a weekend drunk

One foot is on the platform
Other foot is on a train
I'm going back to N'Orleans
Gonna wear that ball and chain

Mamas, tell your little ones
Don't do what I've done
Spend a life of misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

There is a song 'bout N'Orleans
Title is "The Rising Sun"
It has been ruined by many
Lordy, don't you know I'm one

Lordy, don't you know I'm one
Of course, you can also sing "Rudolf" to the melody of "Rising Sun". And, unless you are all good girls and boys, I just might.

A classic time-honored device and excellently done here. I once got in trouble in Sunday School for singing the words of Amazing Grace to The Coke Song (I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing) and Hernando's Hideaway! ;D

Yes, this does work - well thought out.

I didn't know about the Coca-Cola jingle. Now I have some new material to work with. Look out! Imagine "House of the Rising Sun" to that melody.

Great point, Patrick. LOTS of songs have the syllable meter 8-6-8-6...including both Amazing Grace and House Of The Rising Sun. ;D
