The Lyrics

The 'news" never sleeps! The online Huff Post (naturally!) yesterday reported a petition drive to allow long-time Sesame Street characters and roommates Bert and Ernie to marry! The Children's Television Workshop has denied that Bert and Ernie are a representation of a gay couple, but no matter! The petition states that suicides, bullying, and homophobia can be stopped by teaching pre-school children that LGBT marriage is acceptable behavior for beautiful people. Rat Pack August says believe what you want, and please be tolerant. But...pre-school children??? ;D

Bert and Ernie. Bert and Ernie.
There's a strange twist in their T.V. journey.
What's the news about them?
Folks are petitioning to "out" them!
Bert and Ernie? Bert and Ernie??
Knock me out and strap me to a gurney.
'Though they're only puppets
They want gay marriage for The Muppets.

I - am - known for advocating
Real toleration.
Don't - they - know that they're creating
A conflagration?

Children's Workshop is denying,
But it's P.B.S. so I'm not buying!
I find it bewild'ren' -
It's not to teach - it's not to preach -
It's aimed to reach the pre-school children.

No - more - "Around Mulberry Bush"
Or Elmo's Disco.
Just - the - agenda that they push
In San Francisco.

It's new passion, so in fashion.
If you don't like it then you're gay-bashin'!
'Though this is aggressive
All folks who know - will love this show,
'Cause it's all so - very progressive!

I was such an innocent as a child (I still am in many respects). Was there a hidden "meaning" in Reading Rainbow? ;D

Oh please... Ernie and Bert are NOT a gay couple! They're the Odd Couple! You know: "Can two divorced Muppets share an apartment without driving each other crazy?"

Future N.Y. Times headline: "Muppet couple 'Bernie' tie knot in N.Y. courthouse. A drunken Big Bird ejected for calling pair 'a couple of feltpackers'".

Remember, the "Rev." Jerry Falwell claimed that the blue TeleTubby (the one with the triangle on top its head) was gay! What's dat tell ya? BTW, I've been in SF and it gets its "gay city" rep only because the LGBTs there are more open and outspoken. Ernie + Bert are not lovers.

We are not lovers! We are FRIENDS!

Great work as usual, OMR.
