The Lyrics

It was so hot yesterday (How hot was it?) that Rat Pack August was grilling...and he wasn't even using a grill! There is no danger of mistaking this parody for Cole Porter's "It's Too Darn Hot" or Irving Berlin's "We're Having A Heat Wave". ;D

This summer heat's a bum!
It seems that fall will never come,
For still more records will be made -
One hundred in the - shade again today. (1)
This summer heat's a b*tch.
My creek is now a dried-up ditch.
The teams and bands have gone inside.
If not, they'll all get fried.

On it goes - for how long nobody can tell.
It's like the solar surface,
Longest hot spell on this side of hell.
I'm drowning in my sweat.
'Though there are clouds there's no sign of rain yet.
It's a good bet that the pets and the plants won't get wet.
It's staying hot all through the night.
Could this be one that Al Gore finally got right? (2)
This mad summer heat's a bum!

It's hot as anything,
"Hot" as a ten buck diamond ring.(3)
The sun has roasted all the bugs
And downtown all the - thugs are lying low.
The birds are having fits.
My air conditioning's on the fritz.
The frogs that hop on my driveway
Are now just toad flambe'.

Come each dawn - the temperature's starting to rise -
Climbing right through the nineties,
Turning my eyes into brown french fries.
When winter comes at last
I will not curse all the cold Arctic blast.
I'll shovel snow when the wind chill is twenty below.
I'll just put on my heavy clothes
And I won't grumble when my nose gets "froze".
Although I'll be shaking
I won't be baking.
This mad summer heat's a bum!
Pour me a Coke and rum.
I've got some ice -have some.

(1) These are Fahrenheit temperatures, not Celsius. (2) A nod to amiright author Michael Pacholek. (3) An old slang word meaning stolen. ;D

AFW - Thanks. This is only the third time TOS has been used. Guess who wrote the other two, you rascal? ;D

Yesterday it hit 107 in KC. A fellow showed me a newspaper article in which it was noted that just six months ago, in February, the temperature was 12° below zero. I remember it being even hotter in 1980, and the old timers told me then that 1934 was the real scorcher. Back then nobody had air conditioners, so people would sleep outside in the public parks. Try that today!

If it gets worse we might se US troops pull out of oil rich countries near the equator and start invading Iceland and Greenland and Antarctica for the ice. Just a thought...

You may not want to hear this: it's unseasonably cool here.
