The Lyrics

Three days to go before the federal government will run out of funding and be forced to shut down. Did BOTH parties learn nothing in 1995? Stop blaming each other and get the job done! I used the Frankie Laine version of TOS in case anyone is wondering what happened to the opening four-line verse. ;D

'Though government's overspent, and we're drowning in the debt,
Don't shut it down.
Please don't shout and don't pout, 'cause this play's a losing bet.
Don't shut it down.
For each side now has tried to affix the blame,
Remember nineteen-ninety-five 'cause it's the same.
Both sides will be losers in this chicken game.
Don't shut it down.

Just use some sense, for the bluffing sure is snuffing
Any chance of compromise.
The times are tense, come together for it's better
To achieve a plan that's wise.
Although it's time to rein in the spendthrift Obama,
Nothing is gained from this low class drama.
So please spare the public lots of useless trauma.
Don't shut it down.

Don't be insane. There's no gain from a show of party force.
Don't shut it down.
Just address the big mess, and avoid this bad recourse.
Don't shut it down.
Head our call, 'cause we all know the game you're playing,
And knock off all the posturing and jackass braying.
Mess this up - we promise ALL of you'll be paying.
Don't shut it down.

Hey Democrats: Stop your orgy blaming Georgie
Bush for everything that's wrong.
Hey far right sprats : Stop fist pumping, you're not stumping.
Now it's time to work along.
It's time to give the U.S. a brand new solution,
Not with a new spending resolution.
For if it takes amendments to the Constitution,
Just don't shut it down, oh no.
To both sides - don't you shut it down!

I was explaining to a seemingly informed young voter that on Friday Uncle Sam would be broke. This person looked at me incredulously and asked "Well then, why doesn't he just go on government unemployment?". ;D

You'd think the feds would be afraid that if they shut everything down for a couple weeks we'd find out we can get along just fine without most of them. The security code for this comment is THC. Is that what they mean by a "joint" session of Congress? From the way they perform, they must be high on something.

Error Alert - In line 24 "Head" should be "Heed".

Good advice and some fine rhyming, here.

This is a good "Cantoring" parody about the Congress with which we're saddled; it has one leg on the left and the other on the right. Maybe after 2012 they'll ride side-saddle. ;-) 5s

Just another sign of America going the way of the Roman Empire. The U.S. of A will probably be relegated to the history books by the time I would have been eligible for Social Security and Medicare had the government not engaged in many years of spendthrift behavior. Still a very good parody.
