The Lyrics

My Artistry entry. It's true: pop singers are putting other bands out of business. I have no offense against them (even though this parody makes it sound like I do), but the record companies better straighten up. Pacing was tricky due to the way The King sings it, so I tried my best to match each syllable.
Well, since the brand new decade
Our tunes were not treated well
It seems like the only thing that I hear
Is chartbreak pop sells, sickens

Enough of that GaGa Lady
This stuff annoys me
Some bands are so homely, they could cry

CD stores are always crowded
When the newest hit goes boom
Where talent-lacking singers
Bring more oldies' doom, stop this!

Enough of Beyonce's "Crazy"
That song just annoys me
It makes me broken up inside!

Now the number ones keep going
I think I should attack
Well they're played so much on radio
The old songs never will come back
I've pleaded some

I've begged that they stop this playin'
But I'm the only
They always told me "YOU MUST DIE!!!"

Well if anyone believes me
Wanna stop this endless hell
We'll just riot through the record store
Cause chartbreak pop sells!

Because this stuff's makin' me feel so bone-broken, baby
It sounds super-boring
It's so generic I could die!

(Guitar solo, piano solo)

CD stores are always crowded
When the newest hit goes boom
Where talent-lacking singers
Bring more oldies' their doom, make this stop!

Enough of Beyonce's "Crazy" tune
That song annoys me
Don't care if Britney starves and dies!
I hope this doesn't offend anyone. It's just a parody!

Great bit o' bashing there, Blaze! I understand completely. I like listening to those pop artists, but I grow tired of them after awhile once their songs have been played out enough on the radio. SOme other songs that annoy me sometimes is Fergie's "Clumsy", "Like A Tattoo", and "Big Girls Don't Cry". Other played out songs from pop artists that came to mind are Rihanna, Shakira, Katy Perry, Pussycat Dolls, etc. I do agree that pop stars put other bands out of business. I just listen to CD's instead when I'm driving elsewhere. When I thought about that last line about Britney, it reminds me of how much fun I had bashing and making jokes about her. Anyways, good luck in the Artistry comp! 555!

DJ - It's nice to see a person as young as you having the ability to appreciate the older music. I gave up on pop somewhere in the 80's. The new stuff is way too scripted and it all seems to sound the same and is cut from the same cloth. The older music has personality and uniqueness. Great bash on schlock for profit. I five you sir. And what Christie said - break a leg in the Art comps.

We are competing against each other in this comp so this is my comment and vote for the comp.

An old fashion "POP" bash!! Great job, DJ. A lot has been lost over the years..

Thanks to Christie and Guy! I was never much into pop music (it's OK every now and then). Pretty much the only pop I listen to is J-Pop, and I'm guilty of listening to a LOT of that. My favorite way to get away from overplayed pop tunes is blasting out my collection of obscure, foreign metal like Power Quest, Sonata Arctica, and Lordi. Good luck in Artistry, Guy!

Thanks, Mark! Sorry I forgot to thank you, I must have been writing that long response when you commented.

I like it. I'm not in the Artistry competition, but it's good enough for solid 5s. I don't listen much to new music, limiting myself to the oldies, soft-rock, classic country and classic rock stations, and recorded music for the most part.

I notice you left out the word "music", with reference to modern pop. How fitting. ;)

Good stuff here. Your extra effort on the unrecorded extra repeated verse is noted.

Thanks to Agrimorfee! And thanks for the 4 pt. 2nd Place vote!

This was a great satire about current popular music, but there's only one issue I had with it. I can never get enough of that GaGa Lady!
Rex - September 20, 2009 - Report this comment
(Artistry) I hope I'm not revealing a big secret, but... every generation has its share of crappy music. Good work.
DJ Blaze - September 20, 2009 - Report this comment
Matthias: Thanks, and I had no idea you were a Lady GaGa fan. Seeing how big of a metal person you are I never would've guessed!
Rex: Thanks, and you're absolutely right.

Yo, I know you are busy writing a parody and i'mma let you finish, but Beyonce's Crazy is one of the most overplayed songs of all time. Of all time! I guess I should download more music. It's a good parody but I couldn't get into it as well as I should. Maybe because I know much modern pop :)
DJ Blaze - September 21, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks for the comment, Medemia!

(Artistry) I don't really have any negative feelings towards any genre of music ('cept country), but this was a fun read. 555 for you, sir!

A tad bit repeitious by reusing a verse at the end, BUT that said this was SO SO true. . .today's music is just so predictable, lacking of intelligence and lacking of unique style. . .good parody.

(ABC) Loved reading this popbash again!
Matthias - April 13, 2010 - Report this comment
This was a fantastic satire, although I enjoy Lady GaGa... Generic, Audo-Tuned, and Poppy as all Hell... Yes! But it's just far too catchy!!!

being a child of the 70s and a lover of the 80s ui so hate 98% of new "popular" music. so i can identify with this . can also share your pain of parodying this song its a naughty one. bloody good job! 555

(ABC C & D) Voted and commented once before, and it's even better now, considering the cacophonous garbage most new artists are cranking out. Colbie Caillat, Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, Marroon 5, Jack Johnson and Natasha Bedingfield are pretty good, most everyone else sucks big-time. Well done, DJ.

(ABC C/D) Nice to read this parody again, DJ. Never gets old! I listen to all kinds of music instead of one particular type. As they've mentioned, great bit o' bashing! Also, see above my other comment!
