The Lyrics

ventriloquism's magic is an art so keen
his fellow, edgar bergen, is the best we've seen
he's got a little dummy, that he works so good
he called this little hunk of cedar, charlie b. woode
he chose this kind of wood because he liked the smell
and then he practiced his craft till he was famous as hell

go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...charlie b. woode

he used to carry little chuckie in a velvet sack
and oiled him every day so that he wouldn't crack
he'd whip him out and on his knee, he would parade
the audience enchanted by the jokes he made
and millions came to see him, some from far away
just to hear the little nuggets that the lad would say

go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...charlie b. woode

when it came to throwin' voices, edgar was the man
on stage and in the movies, he drew lots of fans
they'd laugh until their sides hurt and their fists they'd pound
when bergen talked for charlie with a high pitched sound
and so this team together really hit the heights
they said, "charlie b. woode's alright"

go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...go, charlie, go
go...go, charlie, go go go
go...charlie b. woode

That goes far back. How many years ago did Edgar Bergen die and did Charlie retire to the Smithsonian? Don't forget that Edgar begat Murphy Brown.

Alvin - You didn't happen to get the idea for this parody from one of the HBO movie channels over the weekend? I had some thoughts for parody on this song this weekend when the original "Back to the Future" played a few times during the day, I think on Saturday. Michael J Fox played Johnny B. Goode at the high school prom in this movie.

This was expertly done - it paced and followed the OS perfectly and it has that Alvin touch of originality. Well done again, Alvin.

Good work, I remember Edgar Bergen...Is this in reference to Charlie McCarthy, his main puppet..or was there another puppet named Charlie B Woode?...recall Mortimer Snerd, and Effie, too
