The Lyrics

well, he was hopin' he'd get better
but his ailment just ain't goin' away
well, he's been slumpin' since his deafness
though he's still anxious to play
its over beethoven
yeah, it looks like you have had your day

you know there ain't no disguisin'
that this poor boy's now confused
he can't keep the rhythm
and its plain that he isn't amused
its over beethoven
its clear you ain't got a clue

yeah, he's been moanin' and groanin'
his ears just fail to listen, its true
he's got a bad case of tinnitus
not a thing that the doctors can do
its over beethoven
sorry, but you are through

the keys he's feelin'...strikin'
but he discovers...not to his likin'
that his ears have been all stopped up...just...a little further
and he reels from shock....and...can't recover
its over beethoven
can't hear what has ensued

well, deafness has been formin'
and it gets his temper stormin'
he can't play like he used to do
he starts to sizzle...cause his craft has fizzled
and he's been feelin' so blue
its over beethoven
its clear you ain't got a clue

well, he was famous for a long term
now, he's a useless flop
he was a music author
the finest of the current crop
but he's had it this time
the dude will be forced to stop

its over beethoven
its over beethoven
its over beethoven
its over beethoven

its over beethoven
you're deaf and sadly, you're through

A fun parody, albeit happily inaccurate re Herr Beethoven's deafness equating to "doneness" --many wonderful works (including, e.g., his 9th Symphony,ad the opera Fidelio) were composed partly or wholly after his progressive deafness was complete. :-)

Deaf or not, I love playing his compositions.

I like the irony: "dissing" one of the greatest composers of all time.

555 for this parody regarding the Master ~B~. His "Fur Elise" is my favorite composition.

Great deaf-jamming...I sense a pattern here...Blind yesterday, deaf today, what's tomorrow, Quasimoto?
alvin - March 13, 2008 - Report this comment

Speaking of drunk - I'll take a fifthof that symphony - the one that's unfinished - I'll polish it off for them. And I'll drink to this parody and any other that comes along. I wonder if Beethoven heard that he couldn't hear?
