When former NFL player Brian Holloway’s Rensselaer County house in NY was trashed by teens in an unauthorized party recently, one of the tweets came from a teen that tweeted on the event who mentioned the 5-1-8 (Area code of upstate NY)! Anderson Cooper on CNN riffed the tweet as “lame” and deliberately mispronounced Oneida, NY… which is not in the 518 anyway! Oneida NY is named after the Oneida "Indian" nation, whose people still live on there today. One of the original Five Nations, later Six Nations (a.k.a. the Haudenosaunee, or Iroquois, peoples), the Oneida are also called "America's First Allies" because, like the American "patriots," the Oneidas broke from their own political/cultural ties to fight alongside us in the Revolution to establish two new nations. People in NY are upset that he insulted an entire region and demographic!!!
