The Lyrics

Do you want to know something about yourself? Contact the appropriate government agencies! ;D

In a bygone age
There was privacy.
What you did was your business
And not for the world to see.
So if you played fairly
And didn't break the law,
Your life was your own.
This much I recall.

Now a new day has dawned
With a new set of rules.
Things aren't what they used to be.
There are hundreds of spies,
There are thousands of eyes,
And I know who's out there watching me!

Hello Big Brothers, I know who you are,
And watching us is your chore.
It's like the set-up George Orwell described
In "Nineteen Eighty-Four".

You know my travels, my daily routine.
You know each charge that I pay.
All of my grades since I was five years old
Are in your dossier.

And there's something more - you keep my credit score.
There is nothing on me you can't vet.
You use all your tech to keep vigilant check
Where I go when I'm on the 'net.

You know my mother's old boyfriends by name,
Each time my words aren't P.C.,
Which way I've voted since seventy-two,
To my car you have a key!
I thank my stars that my government's
Here to protect me from me!

I used this rendition of TOS from the film version of The King And I, which uses the verse and ONE chorus. The underappreciated Marni Nixon provided Deborah Kerr's singing voice in the film, as she did for Natalie Wood in West Side Story and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. For these efforts and others, she is known today as "The Ghostess With The Mostess" (Way too clever and pithy for me to have coined!). ;D

I must disagree: I think the Big Bro's of the world are Google and its commercial ilk. Anyway, good parody. Marni Nixon: great voice, horrible last name.

JAB - That too, my friend. Also, outfielder Otis Nixon of Atlanta had the same problem! ;D
