The Lyrics

One of my favorite stand-by topics is to write about writing parodies. To make this song work, I've had to coin a new word. "Parodizing" (pair -o-dize-ing) means the act of writing parody. I doubt that it will catch on and is certainly not of the same linguistic value as "strategery". I shamelessly dedicate this to amiright and my friends here. ;D

A song - that we're happy to wrong,
Change of word - into something absurd,
Wicked tricks - with new clever lyr-ics.
That's "parodizing".
The hits - that we're smashing to bits,
All the news - that our songs will abuse,
Classic works - that we're treating like jerks.
It's not surprising.

The tunes that we goons - with our jokes have remade,
The rush as we crush - songs into marmalade.
I wish we all could get paid.
'Though it's great to be funny
We all could use extra money.

The fire - of some well-aimed satire,
Or the tweak - of some smug elite's beak,
And the jives - about our daily lives.
It's all this and more.
Who knows what's in store?
We're "parodizing"!

The nights - of those endless rewrites,
Plus the pain - matching words to each strain,
And the need - for somebody to read.
That's agonizing.
Delight - when it's up on the site.
You will smile - when they know it's your style.
All the glee - when you score five times three.
Self-aggrandizing?

Dismayed, you would trade - all your works for a buck,
But you know it's true - you do well for a shmuck.
So you thank heavens for Chuck,
For with his fine decorum
He's giving all us a forum.

You'll be - with T.T., J.A.B.,
And have fun - with the cool Airfarcewon,
In the game - with too many to name.
All hail amiright
'Cause here on this site
We're "parodizing"!

I highly recommend the 1950's movie musical from which this song comes. It stars the incomparable Fred Astaire, suave British music hall performer Jack Buchanan, effervescent Nanette Fabray, and the king of gloom and doom...Oscar Levant. ;D

Great parody, starting with the choice of an Astaire vehicle. He's my cultural hero. Whenever I feel depressed (what time is it now?), I go to YouTube for him ( sometimes with Ginger) dancing to "Old Bojangles," "Waltz in Swing Time," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," etc. I watch most of the canon nearly ev'ry night, and my despair about humanity lifts. That's paradising. To think that a human could create such transcendent beauty! Check out the full 9-minute "Begin the Beguine" with Eleanor Powell. The first part is the flamenco version; the second is the more familiar tap duet. Meanwhile, I've been busting my butt on this stuff like I was back in the lab, and still no pay check. Take it from me, I'm a "schmuck," not a "shmuck."

Yes, writing parodies are indeed the best form of fun to me, too. Especially when you're able to think of how to write a parody ABOUT parodies!

The author of the parody has authorized comments, and wants YOUR feedback.
