The Lyrics

Occupy Wall Street (and its spin-offs throughtout America) is less a protest than a catch-all mob for malcontents. Ask fifty demonstrators what this is about and you'll get fifty different answers. Yet, ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi lionizes them as "focused", "spontaneous" and adds "God bless them!". The press applauds them as a just and fitting response to the violent racist Tea Party. It's somewhat strange, however, that few people in my circle (none of whom are Wall Street hedge fund managers or millionaires) support these activities. I guess we're billionaire robber barons after all, because we certainly aren't a part of "The Ninety-Nine"! ;D

There's a big angry mob in Manhattan.
There is much shouting slogans and chattin'.
They're blaming the U.S. for all that's obscene,
And the air smells as ripe as an outdoor latrine.

Oh what inglorious morons,
Each screaming some diff'rent view.
'Though they think they're modern Solons
Most of them don't have a clue.

They're indicting the capital system.
They're irate 'cause good fortune has missed them.
They shout "Share All Wealth" and "Make Them Pay Our Loans",
As they Twitter and blog on expensive cell phones.

Oh what a mass plague of locust.
How can Tea Party compare?
Nancy P. loves how they're "focused".
O.'s glad. He's got class warfare.

They are daring the po-lice to stop them,
And the Democrats drool to co-opt them.
For says Saul Alinsky - Act up! Get their goats!
A crazed mob in the street's more effective than votes!

Oh what a rad revolution!
Each wealthy person's a jerk.
When we get our restitution
None of us will have to work!
Just look at Michael Moore smirk!

OLR and I are participating in Occupy The Living Room. We're staying until our pensions and occasional part-time work pays for the house! ;D

Great work... the "Occupy Wall Street" thing and the "Occupy Portland" & "Occupy Eugene" copycat BS here irks me, and you made that situation amusing. On my end of things, Andria, the Beanie Baby doll collection and "Haley The Wonder Dog" are involved with the following: Occupy the Trashy Nixon-Era Townhouse, Occupy the Ugly Orange Velvet Couch, Occupy the Herman Miller Office Chair, Occupy the Buy & Sell Center, Occupy The Cement, Dandelion, Crabgrass and Poison Hemlock Backyard, and Occupy the Fugly Butterscotch Pudding-Colored Interior of the Oldsmobile Delta 88. 5s.

If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

I like.

Did Wall Street hold a telethon and beg the American people to pay off what were in effect gambling losses? No, that money was taken under duress from the American people by the Waffen-IRSS and given by corrupt politicians to their bribe paying, cocktail swilling cronies. Without the government, Wall Street couldn't have gotten one cent out of the American public. Why don't these aging hippies and wannabe's protest against the real source of the problem: the government?

Thanks all. Patrick: "Waffen-IRSS" is the line of the century! ;D

I'm a moron. . .planning to attend an Occupy event in my smug bourgeois burg on Halloween--it's even spread to the burbs. I landed in Portland a week ago Thursday, just in time for Occupy Portland, which I did not attend. Well-done parody, OMR.

I'm with Patrick on this...I doubt that any of this would be happening now had not our government repealed Glass-Steagal and enacted the Commodity Futures Modernization Act...oh, what a mess of probems that combination enabled...nonetheless, a well-done parody...555!!!

I may be on the fence about the politics, but very well done..great pacing, syllable stresses, and rhyming..

Thanks all. If we may differ in our politics, it's our love of humor and parody that truly unites us. May my fingers shrivel and fall off if I ever one-bomb a well-executed and funny parody that clashes with my 18th century sensibilities. ;D

@ John F. Kennedy: "You cannot help the poor by tearing down the rich." (attributed to Abe Lincoln, though actual author uncertain.)

btw, aren't you the guy who said, "Ask not what your country can do for you..... " , then followed by proposing 634 new things our government could do for us?

OMR: Quit agreeing with everybody! -- esp JFK. :-D Still, 555 occupyers on your front lawn for tellin' it like it is.
btw, Who was it who paid for establishing Zuccotti Park in the first place? The poor? No, it was donated by United States Steel. . But I'll bet you that not *one* of the occupiers there knows that. Media should ask some of them.

@ John Barry: Did you know that for all the pressure to "clean up Wall Street" of insider trading scandals and the like, that members of Congress are *exempt* from the insider-trading laws, and are allowed to profit from trading on info gained in the legislative process? Millions were made on Solyndra, etc. by the insiders, at taxpayer cost. So, when will you be occupying Congress, demanding that they must follow the laws they impose on the rest of us?
