The Lyrics
This song might be great for your ukulele jam. The mostly-true story has 3 characters - the volcano itself, located near Naples, and 2 musical composers. Luigi Denza wrote hundreds of songs, mostly in Neapolitan, including this smash hit composed for the 1880 opening of the funicular. Richard Strauss lived in Munich; after visiting Naples in 1887, he incorporated the tune in a symphonic work, poorly received by critics. He later became famous for symphonic tone-poems, and modern operas ( der Rosenkavalier, Elektra). Further info may be found at Wikipedia.

He heard a song, a catchy song.
And as he’d brought along his uke and notebook,
He wrote it down, then strummed along.
He gave the borrowed pencil back to Denza,
With whom he jammed, as up they swayed.
And as the active crater hissed and rumbled,
Strauss missed him mumble, above Pompei.

The few words in Neapolitan mean, "Let's go up there". To sound more like a divo, pronounce the j's as "y".

Creative and inventive
Don Giorgio - This has it all - R, Strauss, history I didn't know, clever witty rhymes, and a familiar rollicking tune. I know (and have performed) several extremely ribald parodies of the original song, but none of them would be appropriate here. ;D
