The Lyrics

Click HERE for the "Popeye The Sailor" song.

There's war in Afghanistan,
Osama's in Pakistan.
Imams in Iran,
And in some of the "Stans"
And Borat's from Kazakhstan.

When sockeye is in demand,
They're caught nigh Alaskan dam.
The prawn like it brinish,
Just can't beat the Finnish.
For walleye both fresh and canned.

Iraq has Fallujah,
Iran wants to nuke ya,
Bahrain gots its billionaires.
There used to be Prussians,
Just can't trust those Russians,
And Nineveh is nowhere.

Irish and Scottish have Mc's and Mac's,
Hands off Switzerland, war is banned.
From age old Moldavia,
To Saudi Arabia,
To down under New Zealand.

The crop died in Ireland,
They stopped by the New Found Land.
Potatoes were finished,
So here grew them spinach,
Why nothing grows in Greenland?

The Polskis and Ruskys have Skis and Skys,
One's "I" and one's "Y" it’s the plan.
Pirates from Somalia,
And Czech and Slovakia,
And fin'ly Tajikistan.

Geography 101,
Attila was boss of Hun.
Hong Kong once was British,
For those speaking Yiddish,
Which countries still speak this tongue?

This song brings me back to the time I used to watch this geography game show "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego"? This band Rockapella also sang the theme for this song. The song you wrote also looks like the kind of song Rockapella would sing in that song for they are well known to sing songs based upon Geography. You can find Rockapella's song in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bjAfVLk80g&feature=related and the clip game show in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coseL9OE23U&feature=related. Great use of the OS in your parody. Geographically and informatively written. 555.

There's Olive Oyl in Italy; Olive's none too tittily; this song goes on wittily.

Alvin - You always make my day when you call my stuff your fave of the day. Thanks buddy.

Christie - I remember "Carmen Sandiego" but I do not ever remember watching it. And thanks for the Rockapella links on Youtube. I'll have a look at them a bit later. Thanks for your comment.

IB - This is actually my 2ND stab at this parody. The 1ST one was about half baked so I did a remix. And "epic" is good - thanks.

Jim - Our parodies today are of completely opposite moods. So glad you got your "jollies" from this one. Thanks.

John - Shame on my Italian heritage. I completely missed the chance to do "Olive Oil" and Italy. What was I thinking? Thanks.

Farce - G & A is it? I love G & A. Thanks.

My thanks to Susanne, PMS and Agri. Getting a good review from you, Agri is a good thing. You are unabashedly honest when it come to critiquing parodies and I have always respected you for this. Thanks, sir.
BR> And Susanne it was an honor to put your home country in the spotlight on this one. So glad that you saw this. Thanks.

PMS - I groan at your pun here but I still like it - Thanks.

(ABC) hilarious choice of OS to parody Guy - I must try it one day - and I loved all the "an" rhymes - I found it hard to pace to the youtube version you provided, but when i re-read it by itself I appreciated all the fine little gags in there, and you deserve to have your pacing taken on trust - good stuff - 555

Stu - I am sure that there are at least two different versions of how this song goes. My memory goes way back to when I was a kid and I think that particular one is stuck in my head. At any rate it scanned right for what I remembered. Perhaps I should have scanned it better when I selected the Youtube rendition. I've had this conversation before on another parody of the Popeye OS and as I recall I got some support on the different versions. Nonetheless you are quite kind to take my pacing on trust. The effort is honest.

When I was a kid a parody of sorts was sung by some of my friends. It went like this:
I'm Popeye the sailor man,
I live in a garbage can.
I eat all the junk,
And I smell like a skunk,
I'Cause I'm Popeye the sailor man. poop poop!

I'm glad you got some chuckles out of it - that is the point, right? Thanks for your kind comments.

(ABC) A little rough seas since the Youtube video skipped around your stanzas of lyrics, but that's not your fault. Smooth sailing otherwise and quite humorous! Max Fleischer would be proud. 5-5-5.

Super clever and funny too; great job Guy.

It would have taken me a year to research all of that! Very unique choice of OS, very well done. In 20 years, a third of the countries you named will have new names.

(ABC4) Nice little romp through the world, Guy. Love the 'stans' gag - if you've ever watched Lee Evans, you'll get what I mean. 555!

Highly educational! (That would make for a pretty good parody of "Very Irresistible" lol)

This one didn't click with me to be honest. The rhyming was great and you either did a ton of research or just know a bunch of stuff, which was impressive, I just didn't get this one like some of your others. Sorry...well written, this just didn't do it for me for some reason.
Below Average Dave - May 29, 2009 - Report this comment
Impressive write, well done, can't say I found it terribly amusing, but I really enjoyed the read and most importantly it paced and rhymed very well. . .cool
