Iron Dome seems to be working in a way that the old Patriot missile failed to achieve.

Well, during OIF the US claimed 100% for the Patriot early version which advanced to PAC-3. Iron Dome, by comparioson, was based on the 2006 Rocket War and only became operational in 2011. It has great capabilities for both long and short-range missiles, but Hamas is using crude missiles like Qassams and old Russian junk. These should be very easy to destroy but Iron Dome has not reached 100% success at all. Many times the Hamas missiles still get through or the missile fails to detonate the warhead leaving it to come down over land. Iron Dome is jointly funded by the US and there is an Iron Beam laser system in development. The US and Russia have far superior ABM systems, but they are aimed at downing ICBMs!!! Both are looking at laser systems. Europe is kinda weird in that it wants to try future laser and rail gun systems, BAe already developing a rail gun for sea use against General Atomics version under development. Some independent German ideas are splinter missiles that unbundle in prioximity to guarantee a 100% hit or super hypervelocity missiles mounted on armor for mobile defense. But Europe and esp Germany face no real threat at this time, so development is aimed more on mobile AAA and missiles for vehicles for normal land combat.
