Hi there! I'm Mason Resnick (MasonR) and have been posting parodies on Amiright since April 2004. I do other stuff for a living, mostly writing about photography and cameras.
I've learned a few things about parody writing since 2004:
1. Obama rhymes with Llama and mama, and nothing else.
2. Songs from the 60s and 70s offer better quality original material, which makes them easier to parody.
3. Tom Lehrer wrote the best parody of the "Major General" song. With all due respect to my fellow parodists here.
4. Never let your daughter rate or comment on your parodies using your computer, because the powers that be at Amiright will see the DNS server log and think you commented/rated on your own work, and that gets you disqualified from winning Song of The Month.
5. I have gained a new appreciation for pacing, structure, internal rhyming and other aspects of the craft of lyric writing. That has made me a better writer.
6. I am in awe of the brilliance of my fellow parodists, especially AFW, Red Ant, John A. Barry, Alvin Rhodes, JohnnyD, and Kristof Robertson, Merry & Pippin, and my fellow NJer, Michael Pacholek. You guys are twisted...and brilliant!
7. Parody popular songs. People don't tend to pay much attention to parodies of obscure music, no matter how much you may like it. Sorry, Marshall Crenshaw.
8. Every morning, I bow in the general direction of Boston, and chant a prayer of praise for ChuckyG.
9. Stick to numbered lists when writing your biography page. It wastes less time. And keep it to fewer than 8 items.
Well, that's all I have to say about that. All of my parodies are Copyright Mason Resnick and may not be used without my permission. However, if you want to contact me (like for permission to record a parody--I'd like that very much) email me at masonresnick(at)gmail.com.
